Here’s a startling claim made by a first-time exhibitor at TFWA World Exhibition & Conference: “Our business has tripled in size during the Pandemic,” says Simon Black, Managing Director Travel Retail of the London based agency, Harper Dennis Hobbs.

Black explains that Harper Dennis Hobbs has three main business pillars of interest to the travel retail channel:

  • Retail advisory – currently Harper Dennis Hobbs is advising over 40 different brands spanning from LVMH, Rituals, to JD Sports on their travel retail strategies.
  • Wholesale distribution “with a real focus on ethical brands” – Black gives the particular example of LØCI’s vegan shoes – “every pair made saves 20 plastic bottles from polluting our planet – LØCI are now taking the travel retail market by storm – these are the kind of new brands that travel retail is crying out for – and we are finding them.”
  • Airport Consulting – “we already work with the big airports on their visions and retail masterplans – we benefit from having clients like Apple, Amazon and Lemon in the domestic space – and we can bring together that amazing capability and experience and transplant it to airports, so that they can benefit from the very latest in consumer thinking.”

Harper Dennis Hobbs counts Copenhagen Terminal 2, London Gatwick, Swedavia (all airports), Denver, and JFK among its recent clients. “Retail is being disrupted and we aim to disrupt travel retail,” says Black.
