B adel 1862 attended its very first TFWA World Exhibition & Conference just a year ago – and has come back again in 2024 to repeat the same success of cementing new partnerships, and extending those it already has. Badel 1862’s experience of TR includes a long association with Heinemann which has given the Croatian spirits house a considerable foothold in travel retail, including recent moves onto the airports of Frankfurt and Munich, and growing presence on cruise lines “a category of tourismwhich is growing very well – and growing well for us” said Ivana Barišić, Badel 1862 Export Director (pictured, left) talking to the Dailies Badel 1862 set to repeat “first Cannes successes” with more Croatian brands in the exhibition yesterday. Last year in Cannes the Badel 1862 emphasis was on Šljivovica, the stand-out plum brandy matured in oak from the Slavonian region of Croatia. Alongside Šljivovica this year Badel 1862 is showcasing Antique Pelinkovac – originally sold as a “digestive elixir to cleanse the blood and strengthen the stomach”. Such claims today may just possibly push drinks industry ethics guidelines a bit far, so Barišić relies on the more subjective assertions that it is “a delicious premium, herbal liqueur which may be served on the rocks, with a slice of orange, or as a cocktail”. Indeed, a whole book of “Antique Pelinkovac Cocktails From Some of the World’s Best Bartenders” is available on the Badel 1862 booth, featuring contributions from both Croatian and New York’s finest mixologists. Croatia’s “largest and oldest producer of spirits and wines” has also brought the Korlat line of distilled fruit spirits to Cannes. These are based on 14 different fruits and herbs all grown in Croatia including figs, cherries and grapes – and therefore producing a spirit closely resembling grappa – and Teranino grapes.
