S een here with his daughter and co-worker, Ariana, Heys International founder and CEO, Emran Sheikh, claims that in destruction tests he could still ride on one of these scootable luggage carts without breaking it, even before he lost the 17kg he has shed since he appeared at the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference in Singapore last May. (That’s about 1kg per week – Sheikh says his secret is a daily 5k run and “eating sensibly” – although, in fairness, that probably wasn’t a secret to anyone else.) The child’s scooter luggage, branded with Heys powers further into GTRwith brand-new Cologne Airport store and sets eyes on Hainan Marvel and other must-have characters, features light-up wheels and built-in carry-on bags. The innovations by Canada’s biggest luggage maker are seemingly endless (hence Heys occupies one of the biggest exhibits at TFWA World Exhibition & Conference) The Heys designs question some notable conventions – such as the “Earth Tone” trunk which comes in an entirely different lozenge- shape to a conventional oblong suitcase – although it packs the same 125-litre volume as a regular-shaped bag (which it is also available as). Fun as the scooters are, the Dailies’ favourite is the “Renew” range, which is made from 140 recycled PET bottles and comes with a removable lining, making it endlessly recyclable, although the ruggedness of the Renew line suggests that isn’t anything likely to happen anytime soon. Sheikh reports that fast-expanding Heys opened a store on Cologne Airport “just last week” and it has plans for further openings in Hainan and Toronto.
