B elgian Chocolate Group has reamplified its image to remind people why its brands are suitable for travellers. With key travel brands under its wing as a chocolatier, Belgian Chocolate Group Area Sales Manager Brechje Amalia Houban explained: “We are Belgian Chocolate Group and we have two factories in Belgium, and for duty free we have two brands. So, one is Starbrook Airlines exclusive for duty free so it’s not available in domestic markets, and all the designs are painted by painter Jaak De Koninck which has special nostalgic style with hostesses, stewardesses and pilots, but it’s mainly the brand for Europe.” Houban pointed out that “the Belgian brand is also available in the domestic market, but has also developed a totally new exclusive range for travel”. To look back at its provenance and the story a little, Houban revealed that it all began “in 1956, when there was a couple called Renee and Walter who started making chocolates in a typical house in Belgium”. She explained: “The house was famous because it was the house where the lights were never switched off because they were working day and night” and hinted that “it also fits in with travel retail because everybody who is travelling, at the end, is also going home at some point, so we have been spreading the message of ‘home sweet home’ and ‘home is where the heart is’ for a while now and it is very popular”.
