It’s a success which is quite a story… Originally hatched as a secret prototype in a “James Bond suitcase” at the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference in Cannes last October, Sports Line was seen by Dubai Duty Free which asked for an exclusive launch. Initially seven points of sale went live in Dubai and indeed these ‘sported’ the claims of “Only at Dubai Duty Free” and “Worldwide Exclusive Launch at Dubai Duty Free”. After scoring high with families, the young, and gifting travellers, Sports Line is now being rolled out to Abu Dhabi, Zurich, Kuala Lumpur, Maldives… and others. Sports Line comes in three themes – Football, Tennis and Basketball. The tethered ball is linked to a lanyard and a wristband – “so there’s no risk of the balls rolling o ff around the departure lounge while the children enjoy up to six games which includes using the tube to catch the ball, or as a bat – not to mention the endless combination of imaginative games you can play with a ball.” And while the children can snack sensibly on high quality Swiss chocolate the ball can be packed back away hygienically in its sealed capsule. With the hosting of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 in Switzerland this summer an “entire wall” of the Football edition of Sports Line is being installed by Lagardère at Geneva Airport, while it will also feature at Zurich, Basel and other airports where matches will take place. Similar Tennis versions of the Sports Line will also feature during the Geneva Open starting next Sunday.
