T he Perfumer’s Workshop is looking to its history to shape its future, as Calvin Skinner and William Skinner outlined plans to continue the legacy of founder Donald Bauchner, who passed away on 18 September 2026. “Donald had this amazing appetite for everything – life, people, fragrance,” said William Skinner, who began working with Bauchner in 1985 and described their relationship as becoming family. “He was an iconic figure.” Bauchner pioneered a highly personal approach to fragrance, using a palette of 64 essential oils to create individual scents for customers at counters in New York’s Bloomingdale’s and Saks, later taking the concept to Selfridges and Harrods in London. That philosophy is now inspiring a new generation of The Perfumer’s Workshop. The company is developing a collection built around personal memories. This includes one inspired by William Skinner’s grandfather and his sawmill; one by his wife, evoking memories of her childhood in Northern California through eucalyptus, sea breeze, patchouli and salt; and a fragrance inspired by Calvin that captures the atmosphere and sensory experiences of New York after dark. A fourth fragrance will pay tribute to Bauchner himself. The concept will ultimately extend beyond finished fragrances. Calvin Skinner explained that customers could be offered additional fragrance vials to tweak formulations, combining the company’s story with their own. A further custom set could allow consumers to begin with a base and add ingredients themselves. “It gives power and narrative to the consumer,” he said. “It’s really a workshop experience, going back to Donald’s original concept.” Travel retail is firmly part of the ambition, with the company seeing an opportunity to bring this personalised experience to travellers and encourage greater interaction at the fragrance counter. Alongside the Workshop project, The Perfumer’s Workshop continues to develop its Amouroud portfolio, including Sage Infusion. For Calvin and William Skinner, the next chapter is about taking Bauchner’s original vision forward while preserving its foundations: individuality, creativity and, above all, a personal connection with the customer. YellowVillage C27 A legacy in every bottle: The Perfumer’s Workshop’s next chapter continuing founder’s legacy T hélios is entering a strategic new phase in global travel retail, with a sharpened focus on key airport hubs, increased investment in the Americas and ambitious plans for Fendi, according to Alessandro Eucaliptus, Head of Travel Retail. Speaking at TFWA World Exhibition & Conference, Eucaliptus highlighted the significance of creative changes across several of the eyewear specialist’s major luxury brands, including Dior, Loewe, Celine and Fendi. Fendi will be a particular focus, with Thélios preparing to support a broader, more commercial collection featuring new designs and a revised price architecture. “We want to play hard with Fendi, bringing the brand where it deserves to be,” Eucaliptus said. In travel retail, Thélios will continue its selective approach, concentrating investment on high-quality locations and major hubs including Dubai, London Heathrow and Milan Malpensa, where it is working with Avolta on new stores. The company is also strengthening its commercial organisation in the Americas, a region Eucaliptus believes offers significant scope for further development, while maintaining its strong position across Asia Pacific.
