A travel retail savvy entrepreneur with extensive experience in the field, Anthony Budd founded Diverse Flavours with his wife Michiko in 2010. The Cape Town based company exports a wide range of products from South Africa and Japan – Michio’s country of origin – to international markets, including Asia and the Middle East. While most of its portfolio references are South African wine, they also included Japanese sake and, since 2023, Cape Diversity Gin, a premium, handcrafted, limited-batch gin featuring juniper and local ‘fynbos’ botanical characteristics. Each batch consists of roughly 2,400 bottles, which are individually numbered. Like the rest of the product range, Cape Diversity Gin is listed at Singapore Changi Airport through Lotte, Delhi Duty Free, and Lotte Duty Free stores in Vietnam, as well as in Big Five retail locations in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Another key product focus for the company is Chenin Blanc, the Celebrating diversity largest grape planting variety in South Africa. “South Africa is the best Chenin Blanc in the world,” Anthony Budd smiles, adding that “going forward, the consumer is looking for some lighter fruity wines” and that Chenin Blanc fulfils that needs perfectly. “Even in countries which were traditionally red, there’s actually a switch to some lighter white wines,” he remarks. GreenVillageK55 B atela Sea Style is showcasing its new Spring/Summer 2027 collection at TFWA World Exhibition, as the Basque Country brand looks to expand its presence within the travel retail sector. Speaking in Cannes, Arantzazu Irizar said the latest collection comprises at least 400 new products across Batela’s nautical-inspired clothing, accessories and home decor ranges. While signature pieces, including the brand’s popular raincoats and coats, return each season, much of the wider collection is completely new. Founded in 1991, Batela draws heavily on its Basque coastal heritage, with the sea remaining central to its identity and designs. Its clothing offer spans the whole family, with collections for men, women, children and babies from six months, alongside bags, New horizons for Batela Sea Style accessories and an extensive selection of nautical homewares and gifts. The company already has a broad presence across Europe and the US and is currently seeking further growth, particularly in Croatia and Greece. Travel retail is also becoming an increasingly important opportunity. Batela currently works with several cruise lines and hopes to expand into the airport arena, where they see particular potential for clothing, accessories and smaller gifting items.
